SSC Typing Test

Staff Selection Commission (Government of India) is premier recruiter in India that recruit for Central Govt. Jobs. In various Jobs of DEO (Data Entry Operators) LDC/JSA and Tax assistant its called for Typing Test in English or Hindi. Here are the rules and pattern for SSC Typing Test:

Data Entry Skill Test:

The SSC Typing Test required different-different qualification for different-different positions. You have to prepare yourself as per post your are looking for. For Example DEO Grade A POST - 8000 KDPH (Key Depression Per Hour) Means 8000 KDPH typing speed is required for qualifying in Typing Test. That means a passage of 2000 Key Depression will be given to you in either printed on paper or appear on screen, you have to type in 15 minutes. The Typing Test will of qualifying nature means you have to achieve a minimum criteria set by SSC to get qualified in DEST or typing test. Marks will be awarded for typing test.

KDPH - Key Depression Per Hour

WPM - Word Per Minutes

1 Word - 5 Key Depression

The SKILL TEST will be held at the Commission’s Regional/Sub Regional Offices or at other Centers as may be decided by the Commission. Computer will be provided by the Commission at the Centre/venue notified for the purpose. Candidates shall not be allowed to bring their own Key-board.

SSC Typing Test Instructions

The candidates are expected to type the words/figures and numerical/years in the manner as given in the Question Paper (both in English & Hindi). Mistake will be treated if a candidate types differently or in other language. This applies for both in English & Hindi Mediums.

1. The candidate is required to type the Test Passage in the Medium opted by him, e.g. if he opts for English Medium, he is required to type in English language and vice-versa. No credit will be given if a candidate types in the Medium not opted by him.
2. Candidates are required to use Tab Key for beginning of any Para; rather than giving spaces manually. Every Para, where the space given without pressing the Tab Key, will be treated as a half-mistake.
3. Candidates are Not required to repeat the passage, if he/she has completed the passage once and has time in his/her disposal, however they are allowed to revise and correct their mistakes and inaccuracies, if any, during the prescribed time.
4. After every Punctuation mark, only One space is to be inserted, e.g. after comma, full stop, mark of interrogation etc. However, candidates are advised to follow the Question paper scrupulously in this regard.
5. Any irrelevant matter/numerical typed will be treated as a mistake.
6. Any incomplete word arising due to any reason, will be treated as one full mistake.

SSC Typing Test Software Step by Step Guide

Step-1: Candidate needs to enter his/her roll number in the text box appearing in the following figure:

Note: There may be variation in the screen depending on the skill test and examination.

Step-2: After entering the roll number Press Enter.

Step-2.1 :   Candidate’s profile appears on the screen, press confirm button if Candidate’s profile is correct or call Invigilator.

Step-3: Read the instructions for the type test. Now press the Start Trial Test button on the right side  to  begin  entry/typing  of Test  passage.  Once  the Start Trial  Test  button is pressed trial test will be started immediately. Time remaining for the test will start showing on upper right corner of the screen.

Note:  Duration of the trial passage will be 5 minutes for typing/Data Entry/ Word Processing.

Note: Duration of the Actual Test will be 10 minutes for typing and 15 minutes for data entry/ word processing. For transcription of stenography, the duration for transcription will vary depending on speed of dictation and language.

Step 4: The following white space area will be visible to you for typing after pressing the 'Trial Button'.

Note 1: If you finish typing/entering data/ transcribing before expiry of allocated time, do not repeat the passage and use the spare time for correction of errors in the script/data.

Note 2: You should press the ‘SAVE’ button only after the duration of the test or completion of the typing/entering/correction which ever is earlier. Once ‘SAVE’ button is pressed, no further changes can be made in the script/data/transcript

Note-3: Unless ‘SAVE’ button is pressed, the text/data entered by you will not be saved. Therefore, ensure that ‘SAVE’ button is pressed at the end of the test

Note 4: The Commission will not be responsible for loss of data due to failure to press the ‘SAVE’ Button 

Step-6: Initially the Print button is set to disable. Once the save button is pressed or the test is finished Print button will get enable. Print button should be used to get the print-outs of desired File. 

Note : The Commission may dispense with print-outs of text generated or transcripts.  

Step-7:  There  may  be  a  situation  when  printer  will  not  be  able  to  print  the  desired document due to some reasons. In such situation, candidates may seek help from the Invigilator. He will click the Browse button to open the desired typed file. Whenever the Invigilator click the Browse button a dialog box will appear and ask for the Invigilator’s username and password. If the password and username of invigilator are verified then only Invigilator can browse the typed file. Now the print-out of typed file can be taken easily.

Note: The Commission may dispense with print-outs of text/data/transcript.

Note: In case of Hindi Typing Remington keyboard and Lohit Hindi font have been used.

Devanagari Hindi Inscript Keyboard

For type in Hindi you have to enable Hindi keyboard and you will need Hindi font. Inscript Key board layout is the official keyboard recommended by the Indian Government to type in Indian scripts with Unicode. It is approved and recommended by Indian Govt. In may examinations Hindi Inscript keyboard is used like - SSC, CPCT, UP Govt exam. etc.

Hindi Inscript Keyboard Standard Layout

Weather you know or not your computer system comes with Inscript keyboard by default, You have to just activate/enable to use it. See Below Given Steps to Enable Hindi Inscript Keyboard in your computer system.

A. How to install Hindi keyboard in Windows 11

3. A new window will open titled as "Choose a language to install". Search for Hindi in search box and select हिन्दी (Hindi) and click on Next Button -> Install button.

4. After Installation complete, you will see Hindi appeared in preferred languages list as shown in below image:

5. Now you can enable/activate Hindi In-script keyboard from language bar present in task bar as shown in Image given below: You can switch language from English to Hindi and again in English as you required.

B. How to install Hindi keyboard in Windows 10

1. Click on the Start button, then select Settings -> Time & Language -> Language.

2. In Language settings page click on Language -> Add a language, as highlighted in shown image:

3. A new window will open titled as "Choose a language to install". Search for Hindi in search box and select हिन्दी (Hindi) and click on Next Button -> Install button.

4. You would see Hindi language started downloading and installing in your windows 10.

5. After Completion of Installation when you click on Hindi you will get "Options" button there.

6. When you click on Option button will get a window open and shows a Icon of newly installed Keyboard "Hindi Traditional INSCRIPT". Hureee! It's Done.

7. Now you can enable or activate Hindi In-script keyboard from language bar present in task bar as shown in Image given below: You can switch language from English to Hindi and again in English as you required.

C. How to Enable Hindi Keyboard In Windows 8, 7 & Vista

1. Open Control Panel and go to Regional and Language Options in Control Panel as shown in below image:

2. Click on Change Keyboards button and then click on add button -> after that search for Hindi India and -> Expand the + sign and select Devanagari Inscript Keyboard as shown in figure below.

3. Select Hindi, Check Keyboard Layout and select Devanagari - INSCRIPT

4. Finally Click OK and Apply

How To Use Inscript keyboard

1. Open any text editor or application.

2. Change keyboard from taskbar, You would have EN button their you can click on that button to switch in Hindi language.

3. Alternatively you can Press "Alt + Shift" key, now you can type in Hindi with Inscript keyboard and if you again press Alt+Shift, then you will switch to English Keyboard.

D. Steps for Enable Inscript Keyboard in Windows XP

1st Step:

1. Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Date, Time, Language and Regional Options.

2. Click on Regional and Language Options.

3. Click on the Languages tab as shown below.
    

4. Under the heading 'Supplemental language support' check the item 'Install files for Complex Script and right-to-left languages (including Thai)'.

5. Allow the OS to install necessary files from Windows XP disc Reboot

2nd Step:

What to Select as User Locale, Location and System Locale?

1. Click on the 'Regional Options' tab to set User Locale and Location.
2. Under the heading 'Standards and format' select Hindi or any other language as your User Locale from the drop-down box. This selection will determine settings for numbers, currencies, times and dates as well as sorting rules for the language.
3. Under the heading 'Location', select a country where you are physically located such as India.  
   
   

3rd Step: 

Setting-up the Indian Language Keyboards or Input Locales In Regional and Language Options panel, click on the Languages Tab.

1. Once Languages tab is selected click on the 'Details' tab to install different input locales or Keyboards.

2. Click on the 'Add' button to add a keyboard for a particular language.

3. In the drop-down box select Hindi or Marathi as the Input Language.

4. A corresponding keyboard layout/IME will be automatically selected as shown below. Click OK to close the dialog boxes.

Windows XP also offers following Devanagari keyboard layouts such as :

• Hindi-Traditional

• Hindi-Devanagari-Inscript

• Marathi

• Marathi-Devanagari-Inscript

• Konkani-Devanagari-Inscript

• Sanskrit-Devanagari-Inscript

The Hindi-Traditional and Marathi keyboard contain all the characters that are traditionally used in Hindi and Marathi and include English punctuation without the need to change to the English keyboard to get at the punctuation. It is the recommended keyboard for most users.

The Devanagari-Inscript keyboard contains an extended Devanagari character set that includes characters for transliterating into Devanagari from other Indian languages as well as some Sanskrit and ancient Vedic characters. This keyboard is recommended for special users.
